Why would a Pict come down from the north alone? What does she want? What is she after?
In truth, the whispers, the curiosity, the rumors spread are all reason enough for Dryw… but the truth is quite simple. Saxons raid all over England and even across the sea. They do all the hard work of amassing great hordes of gold. How nice of them to put it all in one place!
Actually, she hates the Saxons. Their cruelty and strange ways (even for a Pict) are like a thorn in between the toes that refuses to work itself out. So, she has provided her skills to a – at least for now – worthy Briton chief. At least they speak a language she understands.
Besides… it’s boring back home among her Father’s people (the Picts) and there are not enough Saxons that actually have gold… and the food and drink is dreadful. If the Romans did one thing right, they taught the Britons how to cook.
Worst case scenario… she returns to the sea to be with her mother’s people – the Fae – as a Selkie.
